Identity thieves can gather valuable details from discarded paperwork, such as financial statements, medical records, or credit card bills. Then use that information for their gain and unfortunately your loss. Shredding documents remains one of the most convenient and secure ways to safeguard against this form of identity theft. The main ways to dispose of documents are:
  • A personal paper shredder at home with cross-cut or strip-cut abilities
  • If you are a small business, consider a professional paper shredding service
  • Or take your documents to our annual shred day events being held in May and June at all the Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union offices. We partner with Paper Storm, who comes on site to shred you documents, keeping your information safe.
By shredding documents you can prevent sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. Going forward you can also consider having documents sent to you electronically rather than by paper.
