Importance of Verbal Passwords

By now, we have all heard that unique and private passwords are one of the best lines of defense to protect your money, accounts, and so much more. The reason we hear this information so frequently is because it is true. When you stop by our Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union branches, there is a chance we already have your driver's license scanned into our system so we can get a good visual identification, without having to use a password. When we don't have a copy of your driver's license, or if it is a phone conversation, we rely on a password. If you don't have a password set up on your account, you can expect a series of security questions to make a positive identification. These questions are meant to be something only you would know, and therefore should be challenging for a fraudster to answer. To avoid the sometimes-tough questions, swing by your local branch and let us scan in your identification and set up a password. The most secure passwords are easy for you to remember, but difficult for a fraudster to guess. Privacy is of upmost importance with passwords (verbal and online), please do not share it with family, or friends; and honest businesspeople will never ask you to share your credit union passwords to access your accounts, if they do, it is most likely a smooth scam artist. If you are at one of our branches and do not feel comfortable saying your password out loud, please ask and we will be happy to have you jot it down on a piece of paper, or you can hand us your driver's license. Thank you for helping us protect your finances!
