Get smarter about your money with this Financial Wellness Minute. I'm Patrick Voigt, manager from Mid Minnesota Federal Credit Union's Detroit Lakes Office. To avoid holiday financial stress, plan ahead and stick to a budget. Here are some tips to help you stay on track:
  1. Set a budget: Make a list of all the expenses you anticipate, such as gifts, holiday meals, and travel; then allocate a specific amount for each.
  2. Make a list and prioritize: Create a list of the people you want to buy gifts for. Consider setting spending limits for family and friends to ensure fairness.
  3. Start early and shop smart gives you time to compare prices, look for bargains, and take advantage of sales. You can even buy a few holiday meal groceries on each trip to the store to spread the cost over several weeks.
  4. Avoid impulse buying, especially online. Leave the item in your cart for 2 days and determine if it still is something you want to purchase.
  5. DIY gifts and experiences: Consider giving homemade gifts or experiences. A home-cooked dinner, a handcrafted item, or a personalized outing can be meaningful and cost-effective alternatives to store-bought gifts.
Remember, the true spirit of the holidays lies in the joy and love we share. Want to know more about saving or have a weekly financial wellness tip sent to you?
